DUC Counselor Bootcamp 2024

The third edition of the DUC Bootcamp for Counselors took place from 7-9 February 2024

This event was for counselors who wished to learn more about studying in the Netherlands: application and admissions, University Colleges, Research Universities vs. Universities of Applied Sciences, practical matters, career environment and more. A student panel provided insight into the learning experience at the DUC institutions.

Research Universities vs. Universities of Applied Sciences

As you know, the Netherlands has two types of Higher Education institutions: Universities of Applied Sciences and Research Universities. While in most cases the type of program a student is interested in will determine which of the two they will go to, there are quite a few disciplines offered by both institutions. Come and join this session to learn all about the differences between Universities of Applied Sciences and Research Universities and figure out which of your students is a good fit for one or the other.

University Colleges in the Netherlands

University Colleges, the institutions in the Dutch Higher Education landscape offering a Liberal Arts and Sciences education are quite popular among students. Join this session to learn what makes the University College different from other Research University programs, find out what students are suitable for this type of program, and learn about the differences between the various University Colleges in the Netherlands.

Advanced Admissions and Selectivity

Understanding the application and admission processes in The Netherlands is not a simple task at first. With different types of institutions, programs and forms of selectivity, it can be overwhelming going through the Dutch application process. With little standardization, navigating the numerous types of admissions processes, deadlines, terminology and expectations can be tricky. What is matching? What does Numerus Fixus mean? What different types of selective processes exist and how are selections made? Join this session to learn more!

Understanding Studielink

Studielink may feel like an expletive to many students and counselors around the world. In fact, it is a government registration platform and database that is fairly easy to use, if you understand it and know where to look for assistance when necessary. In this session we will walk you through the registration process, discuss common pitfalls with examples, and talk about the offer and acceptance of offer possibilities.

Housing, Finance, Education: Your Dutch Journey Update

Once students decide on the institution they want to attend, there are various practical matters to attend to. This session will provide some more information about those practicalities including housing and finance considerations for international students. There will also be a short update on the political climate in the Netherlands in regards to international student recruitment.
